Berkeley Parole and Probation
South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, or SCDPPPS, administers probation, parole, and certain forms of community supervision. It is separate from the South Carolina Department of Corrections. SCDC holds state prisoners and records their custody release. SCDPPPS records whether a person must report and comply with supervision terms after leaving custody. A county court may also impose probation without a state-prison release.
Use the court judgment to identify the sentence, the SCDC or Hill-Finklea record to establish release, and SCDPPPS to establish supervision. One source cannot safely stand in for all three. A person may be released from Hill-Finklea with probation, leave SCDC on parole, complete a sentence with no active supervision, or move between agencies under a transfer rather than a community release.

Check Berkeley County Supervision
The official SCDPPPS Offender Search is the first online check for active supervision. It accepts first name, last name, SID number, county, and year of birth in approved combinations. Those include first plus last name, SID alone, a first or last name with year of birth, or Berkeley County paired with SID, first name, or last name. Use enough detail to avoid a namesake.
Results represent the preceding day. A match supports active SCDPPPS supervision as of that data point. No match is not a historic discharge record and does not prove the person is jailed. It may reflect a spelling issue, identifier mismatch, prior-day lag, or supervision that has ended.

- Confirm the county, identifiers, and displayed status before relying on the result.
- Record the source date because the online data reflects the prior day.

The local office is the best fallback when the prior-day web result does not answer a current question. The Berkeley County SCDPPPS office can explain what public confirmation is available. Ask for current supervision or discharge status by full name and identifier. Do not assume staff can disclose protected case notes.

For a durable agency record, use the SCDPPPS FOIA request form. The form lists copies at $0.20 per page, staff time beyond fifteen minutes at $15 per hour, and $17.50 per audio item. A deposit of up to 25 percent may apply when the estimate exceeds $50. Request a specific public status or discharge record. South Carolina law can protect parts of supervision files.
Berkeley Parole Hearing Records
The seven-member South Carolina Board of Paroles and Pardons decides parole for eligible SCDC prisoners. Probation decisions generally come from courts. The official Parole, Pardon and Release Services search accepts first and last name, SCDC number, and hearing month in stated combinations. Schedules are generally finalized and searchable about 30 days before a hearing, but rescheduling and posting delays can occur.
A calendar entry is only a scheduled event. A posted grant is a board decision subject to release planning and conditions. Neither proves that the person physically left SCDC. After finding a result, check the SCDC Released Inmate Search for the actual release date and type, then use SCDPPPS for active supervision.

The Title 24 Chapter 21 rules include general eligibility formulas, violent-offense limits, and many exceptions. Good behavior does not reduce parole eligibility in the same way as earned-work credits. Eligibility means the board may consider a case. It is never a promise of release.
Berkeley Supervision Alerts
SC VINE and VINELink cover county detention, SCDC custody, and SCDPPPS supervision information. Users may search for a specific person and register for available status-change notices. The statewide telephone route is 1-866-727-2846. Select the data-source agency carefully because Hill-Finklea, SCDC, and SCDPPPS describe different stages.
A notification reflects data supplied by a participating agency and may lag the event. Transfers can require a new registration. For formal notification about an SCDC prisoner, contact SCDC Victim Services at 1-800-835-0304. The Ninth Circuit SCDPPPS victim-services contacts serve Berkeley and Charleston, but that channel is not a general case-record substitute.
Preserve the notice time and confirm important facts with the agency record. A release alert does not explain the sentence, current address, or whether another agency assumed custody.
Berkeley Absconder Status
The SCDPPPS Most Wanted Offenders page is a separate warrant and absconder channel. If a Berkeley entry appears, state only that SCDPPPS listed the person as wanted or absconded on the date checked. The listing concerns an alleged supervision violation or warrant status. It is not proof of a new conviction.
Removal from that page has several possible explanations. It does not by itself prove arrest, return to custody, reinstatement, or discharge. Confirm the current public status with SCDPPPS. If a new court action is relevant, use the Berkeley court docket as a separate source. Neutral wording keeps the agency allegation distinct from an adjudicated result.
Conditions may include reporting and other rules stated in the order. Only the official order and supervising agency can define a particular person's terms. A public search should not be stretched to infer terms it does not display.
Berkeley Supervision Discharge Records
Supervision ends through an agency or court process, not merely because a name disappears from an online search. Ask SCDPPPS what public discharge confirmation exists. For the legal sentence, review the court judgment. For state-prison departure, use the SCDC released search. For a county-jail release, obtain the Hill-Finklea booking and release record.
South Carolina FOIA allows access to nonexempt public records, while specific supervision information may be protected. A focused request should name the person, SID if known, the sought status or discharge record, and the relevant period. Ask for segregable public portions and the legal basis for withheld material. The South Carolina FOIA statute sets response and fee rules, but it does not turn protected supervision notes into public records.
Keep custody release, supervision discharge, and court disposition as separate dates. That distinction resolves many apparent conflicts in Berkeley County records.
